Smacking 'causes mental health problems' for children

"SMACKING and yelling at children is causing a rise in mental health problems, with three-year-olds suffering from depression and anxiety.
" From news.com.au.

People who think that a studied psychologist releasing a scientific research paper into mental health problems amongst the very young is an excuse to call talkback radio stations and advocate the physical abuse of children.

You are annoyed you cannot beat your child? I am annoyed that when someone stands infuriatingly on the spot for the two steps' worth of time the train station escalator is entirely horizontal, I cannot firmly shove them in the back to encourage a brisk walking pace, rather than a zombie-like stupor, but you don't see me ringing radio stations to complain about it. You see me muttering to myself and leaning uncomfortably close to the backs of their necks, trying to stop myself from touching their hair with claw-like fists of rage.

Rocky Horror

Last Friday night I went to see Rocky Horror with my wonderful Ma, and it was incredible! The Star Theatre is tiny and I don't know if it was all the red foil and old televisions everywhere but it all felt wonderfully tacky. I got pretty overheated though, from the power of hundreds of middle aged women swooning over iOTA.

Um, obviously. Delicious!

Awesome Beanie

During winter in Sydney I see loads of people wearing beanies, and have trouble deciding whether they're poor or just cold. One of the best ways to avoid looking like an impoverished criminal during winter without sacrificing some warmth for your noggin, is a lovely hand-knitted skull cap. The one pictured makes my knittin' fingers itch, and you can download the pattern at one of my favourite crafty blogs, brooklyntweed.

Gee Dubbya as the Joker

Damn near everyone is getting all up in this Joker nonsense.

Check out this amazing portrait of the Leader of the Free World by Caricaturist Drew Friedman, for Vanity Fair.

Jesus sucks

I am so incredibly over the question "is this just funny, or plain offensive". Things like this (via Friendly Atheist) are generally only funny because they're offensive, hopefully to a person or group of people you disagree with.

Oh and ignore the Wear Science shirt I'm wearing, it's hilarious and not at all offensive =P

The Joker arrested stealing movie posters

Nice work, son.

"...officers dispatched to the theater arrived to find employees restraining a man wearing a purple suit, a green wig and face paint in the style of Batman's nemesis in The Dark Knight."
